Florence: City of the Renaissance

Florance Epitomizes the Renaissance. It was the home of inventors, architects, painters, and merchants.

This week we will will be examining this city in more detail.

In class today we did the pre-reading questions for chapter 29.

We also did the key terms for chapter 29.

I assigned essential question # 1 for home work.

The Renaissance

As we near the end of the school year we are  moving out of the “Middle Ages” and int early modern history. This begins with the Renaissance, which was a time of re - birth. Art changes from stout and stark religious works to bright and cheerfully works that depict humans in every day life.  This is not to say that religion is not found in the art of the time.

This is the Pietà by Michelangelo.  It depicts Mary holding the dead body of Christ.  It is an example of the new art style in Italy during the Renaissance.  We will be discussing art in great detail this week.
