One Last Look at Mesoamerica

April 29th, 2008 by Mr. Dorrough and tagged

This will be our last week studying the civilizations of Mesoamerica.

Today we worked on the Preview activity for chapter 27.  What are the most influential inventions of the past 50 years?  Do you think people will be using them in 500 years from now?   How about 700 years from Now?

In class today we compleeted preview 27 for warm up.

We then focused on the key terms for chapter 27.

For homework I assigned essential questions 1, 2, and 3.

Don’t forget that your post card project is due on Thursday, and we have a test on Friday.

Postcards from Tenochtitlan

April 28th, 2008 by Mr. Dorrough and tagged , ,

Our unit 6 project is to create postcards depicting daily life in Tenochitilan.

You can extend this to life in Mesoamerica during the time we have been studying.

A postcard has two parts, and your postcards will also have two parts. A picture or graphic, and witting.

Follow this link to the criteria guide and rubric for the Aztec Postcard project

Too Little Time and Too Much History

March 21st, 2008 by Mr. Dorrough and tagged , , , , ,

Well, I have counted the weeks that we have left in the school year and have decided that we will not have the symposium on the Crusades next week. It is unfortunate that we have run out of time. I think that some of you would really have enjoyed studying the Crusades. If you want more information about the Crusades check out the Wikipedia article. You should look up the Children’s Crusade in particular. This crusade was led by a Teenager and ended badly. We will begin Unit Six on Monday.

Unit Six covers the civilizations of The Americas. Basically we will be studying Mesoamerica. This unit will cover the civilizations that existed in Mexico and Central America before Columbus landed in the Americas. This includes the Incas, the Mayas, and the Aztecs.
