Project
Our unit 6 project is to create postcards depicting daily life in Tenochitilan.
You can extend this to life in Mesoamerica during the time we have been studying.
A postcard has two parts, and your postcards will also have two parts. A picture or graphic, and witting.

Over the next few days we are going to be reading the book Hidden World of The Aztec by Peter Lourie. We are going to use the reading tree to find out how Archaeologists have gathered information about the Aztecs.
In class today you were asked to list the “On the surface”question words and the “Under the suffice” words.
For our class work we read from the book Hidden World of The Aztec and took notes using the questioning tree and leaf notes.
There was no home work today.

How do we know about the Maya, Aztec, and Inca?
We know what we do because of the careful work of anthropologists and archaeologists. The best known archaeologist is Indiana Jones, but he is not a real person nor does he practice archeology the way modern archaeologists do.
An anthropologist studies people and their culture. They observe people and how they live by watching them through their daily routines. If they are studying the past they put the pieces of evidence that they can find together to determine how they lived. Basically, they use everything around them to study a group people. They do not always work in the field. They can and often do most of their work in libraries and museums.
An archaeologist is a specific type of anthropologist. Thy studys the past through carefully excavation and examination of the physical remains of a society. They study both buildings and bodies. They have carefully established rules on how to dig up old cities and grave sites. They use scientific equipment and simple brushes to get what they want.

Tenochtitlan

The history of Modern Mexico can be dated back to the fourteenth century with the founding of Tenochtitlan, and the rise of the Aztec empire. The story goes like this, the Aztecs were looking for a sign from their gods to find a good place to settle. When they saw this sign they began to build their city. It became a huge city in the center of the Aztec empire. Modern day Mexico City is built around the area where Tenochtitlan was built.
In class today we read 24.1 for warm up.
We then used the Chapter Twenty Four Standards Guide to work on key terms. We used the Picture Dictionary and Budget Vocabulary Matrix to study the key terms.
For Home Work I assigned essential question # 1:
Where was the Aztec Empire located? Describe the Landscape of this region.
