Unit 6 Aztec Daily Life Postcards

Aztec Daily Life Postcards

Imagine that you are an Aztec living in Tenochtitlan. Write and illustrate postcards based on what you learned about daily life in the Aztec capital. For each postcard, follow these steps:

  1. Write the personal note from the perspective of your main Aztec character and in the active voice. For example, you might write, “Today I went to the market.”
  2. Each postcard must
    • Focus on a different aspect of daily life in Tenochtitlan (marriage, family life, food, markets, religion, or recreation).
    • include important information from your Reading Notes.
    • Have a formal explanation and an informal note.
  3. Make sure you discuss how your main Aztec character comes in contact with another character on at least one of the postcards. For example, you might write, “Today at the Great Market I bought some avocados from Huaxiuitl, my favorite vegetable vendor.”
  4. Make sure each postcard has a definite setting where the action takes place, such as the market, ball court, or kitchen.
  5. Draw a simple, appropriate visual that represents something important about each aspect of daily life. This should be done on the blank side of the index card.
  6. Use correct spelling and grammar, such as capitalizing proper names.
  7. Prepare a rough draft of your postcards, and have your teacher review it. Write your final draft neatly in ink.
